Back to Basic with KOSÉ Sekkisei

Hello guys!

About two weeks ago I posted my unboxing and first impression video on the Kose Sekkisei Trial Kit surprise that I received. I've been using them for a good three to four weeks now and is all ready to talk about my experience with this little bag of magic. When I started, I realized that I actually have very little experience with Japanese skincare products but after using Kose, I think I might venture out more into trying the beauty brands from the land of the rising sun.

Let's start off with the most random part of the story on why I like this brand. It's because it's blue. Yes, their packaging is in the shade of blue that I reaaallyyyy like (see the emphasize?). My fangirl side speaking here but I am just obsessed with anything in this shade because it's the official colour of my favourite group Super Junior. LOL. Super random and totally unrelated but the packaging just speaks to me. My nonsensical obsession with the colour is not the only reason. The trial kit products are all packaged in one sturdy high-quality bottle too.

Now let's get real and talk about what I really think about all five products that I have tried in this trial set. You should watch my unboxing and first impression video above first before reading on as you know how first and final impression can be different sometimes. Please pardon the bad lighting and my weird voice. I will try to improve on the lighting in the future but on my voice, I'll have to wait for technology to make it sound better in the future. Haha.

As what I mentioned in the video, we received a total of five products to try out in the trial kit. The bag is super cute with Kose mascot girl Setsuko printed on one side wearing a lovely kimono. Inside this trial kit, we have:

Basic Care Products

1. Kose Sekkisei White Liquid Wash (20ml)
2. Kose Sekkisei Lotion (100ml)
3. Kose Sekkisei Emulsion (70ml)

Special Care Products

1. Kose Sekkisei Clear Whitening Mask (10ml)
2. Bihadagoyomi Mask (3 sheets)

I mentioned how much I love the scent from the Sekkisei White Liquid Wash in the video and I would like to keep that statement. I really like how it smells, very light and smells almost like floral baby powder. Unlike some face wash, this one does not make my skin dry afterward. It also removes makeup really well! One day I ran out of facial wipes so I didn't use my makeup remover before I go further with my skincare routine but this Sekkisei White Liquid Wash actually managed to remove all my makeup. Even on the eye makeup which can be notorious and hard to get rid.

How to Use?
Dispense 1-2 pumps onto palm and add water then gently lather until foam forms. Massage onto face before washing thoroughly.

This second product is actually a part of the special care which is really crucial especially for those with blackheads and whiteheads issue. On days where I want to use all five products in my skincare routine, I will use the Sekkisei Clear Whitening Mask right after cleansing. First reason is the skin is noticeably softer after cleanser so it's easy to get rid of the hard stuff (the infamous blackheads and whiteheads) as it also had gotten softer from the moisture. I just applied the black mask on my face. If you're too lazy to put on whole face, you can opt to apply on more serious area which are the T-zone, cheeks area and a bit on the chin for me.

How to Use?
Spread across your face while avoiding the eyes, eyebrows, hairline and lips area. Peel it off once it's dry from inside to outer area of your face (outwards).

*My Tips: I will wash my face with water once after peeling it off just in case some impurities still left on my skin.

Very easy to spread. I recommend you to make it as thick as the darker part so it will peel off better.

This might turn to be my holy grail product soon. I love how it works on my skin. I usually hate applying lotion but I just love this one. Smells amazing too! The best part it how it can work as a 2-in-1 product. You can use it as a basic lotion which is to be used after the Sekkisei White Liquid Wash and Sekkisei Clear Whitening Mask, or you can use it with the Bihadagoyomi Mask.

How to Use?
Pour lotion generously onto a cotton pad and pat gently on face.

*My Tips: Patting motion is actually great to help skincare to be absorbed better into your skin.

Another way to use the Sekkisei Lotion is to combine it with the Bihadagoyomi Mask and skip the previous part. All you have to do is soak the mask with an appropriate amount of lotion until you can open it up. Let's just refer the picture guide before for a better understanding!

How to Use?
Fully soak the lotion mask with Sekkisei Lotion, place into a clean face for 5-10 minutes. No rinsing is needed.

*My tips: Use the lotion cap to soak the mask. It can be a bit small so I pour a bit more after the first time.

Super refreshing and I love how the solution doesn't drip even when I fully soaked it. Not messy!

Last but not least, use the brigtening emulsion as the last step! Just like the Sekkisei Lotion the Sekkisei Emulsion does not feel sticky to my face at all either. I hate sticky skincare especially with Malaysia crazy hot weather even at night. Even the trial product comes in a pump dispenser! *Genuinely impressed*

How to Use?
Dispense 2 pumps on a cotton pad and spread over the skin.

In overall I will give this Kose Sekkisei Trial Skincare Set a 4.7/5.0! Unlike other trial set products that I tried before they come in a really nice packaging and doesn't feel flimsy at all. I know that trying new skincare can be a confusing thing, especially when thinking about how much money we need to spend on full-sized products to have it turn out to be unsuitable for our skin. Thankfully you won't need to worry if you want to try the products above as you can actually get the same trial set that I reviewed above for RM99 at Kose counters!
